DESCRIPTION:
APW - Illinois, Bunn Special, 23J, very rare HC Model 8, 16S, gold-filled HC recase with beautiful engine turning and engraving detail, front shield with initials, white enamel DS Gothic numeral dial, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, jeweled barrel, rayed pattern nickel damascene, gold colored mvt lettering, s#2577641. A beautiful example of this very rare hunting case variant. The total production of this Bunn Special 23 jewel hunting case Model 8 with rayed pattern damascene and gold colored lettering is believed to be only 50 made per Michael Chamelin's Bunn Special book.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, nearly mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous surfaces, plates with few scattered micro-fine scratches, steel disk around balance jewel setting with some fine scratches, small spot of oxide to smaller winding wheel perimeter, few very small bits of oxide to larger winding wheel, case screws with some oxide to their heads; dial with few scattered very faint hls, rear of dial has been examined and confirmed to have correct Model 8 dial foot positions; excellent hands; case shows hardly any wear, no dents or dings, superb crisp engine turning and engraving detail, case shows no visible sign of having held another mvt but we designated as a recase as our consignor noted he paired this case with the present mvt himself; tight bow, crown shows hardly any wear; good glass crystal.
